At the same time, people on both sides of the flight need items from the other: local Ethiopians require high-quality tablets, electronics, and baby formula from abroad; meanwhile, diaspora communities in cities like Washington DC, London, and Munich miss traditional Ethiopian coffee, berbere spices, and handcrafted clothing that are hard to source. Historically, they rely on awkward phone calls, unsecure wire transfers, and un-tracked packages.
Zemex was created to turn these informal, unreliable favors into a structured, bidirectional peer-to-peer shopping network. By letting travelers list their empty suitcase limits and pre-approved budgets in either direction, and protecting both parties with secure Stripe-backed escrow accounts, we make cross-border peer buying safe, reliable, and mutually profitable.
